HYBRID BREATHER TECHNOLOGY

 

What really differentiates the Hydroguard™ and Ventguard™ Hybrid Breathers is their “controlled breathing” mechanism. Check valves provide slight system pressurization that allows for controlled breathing without excessive pressure build-up. The system breathes only when pressured to do so, and then the air is cleaned and dried before it is introduced into the system, ensuring a clean, dry headspace. This control mechanism also prevents premature saturation of the silica gel and extends breather life, a problem not as easily tackled by standard desiccant breathers exposed to extreme moisture.

HYBRID INSTALLATION METHODS

 

Des-Case Hybrid Breathers should be installed vertically and are designed for installation on most equipment regardless of location. For installation in tight areas, Des-Case offers accessories for remote mounting. Because of the self-adjusting design, Hybrid Breathers may be installed on a hot or cold system. Periodic visual inspection of the check valves on all Hybrid Breather models is recommended.

HYBRID BREATHERS

 

The patented Hydroguard™ Hybrid Breather is the ideal solution for the management of lubricant in:

  • Frequent wash-down applications
  • Frequent cycle applications
  • Applications in which the breather bladder can maintain a sealed system
  • High humidity environments where there are increased incidences of gearbox and lubricant failure due to moisture ingress
  • Low-flow applications
  • High-humidity applications

HOW IT WORKS…

 

As wet, contaminated air is drawn through the unit, multiple 3-micron polyester filter elements remove solid particulate and the color-indicating silica gel extracts moisture. The bladder on the Hydroguard™ breather provides an area for the air to expand and contract as a result of temperature variations during steady-state operations. When air is expelled from the equipment headspace, the bladder expands and the top foam pad prevents oil mist from contacting silica gel or entering the atmosphere. Once the bladder is filled with air and the pressure exceeds that of the breather, the check valves will open and the excess pressure will be released. The hydrophilic agent is partially reactivated by the dry air passing back through.

HYBRID BREATHERS

 

Ventguard™ Hybrid Breathers are outfitted with check valves to ensure no excess pressure or vacuum builds inside the equipment system. The interior check valves on the Ventguard™ hybrid breather virtually isolate equipment from surrounding contaminants. The Ventguard™ Hybrid Breathers are the ideal for the management of lubricant in:

  • Limited wash-down applications (the Ventguard™ may spend more quickly in a frequent wash-down situation due to the lack of the bladder)
  • Infrequent cycle applications
  • Applications in which the headspace is much larger than the Hydroguard™ breather bladder can maintain
  • Low-flow applications
  • High-humidity applications

HOW IT WORKS...

When air is expelled from the container, the top foam pad prevents oil mist from contacting silica gel or entering the atmosphere. The breather is outfitted with a resilient nylon standpipe and a clear polycarbonate body which allows for easy monitoring of the high-contrast silica gel.
